Who We Are
NiMechE stands for the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NiMechE) is the professional body dedicated to advancing the practice and science of mechanical engineering in Nigeria.
It serves as the Mechanical Division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and has full standing authority derived from the NSE's Articles of Association. It is not a separate or parallel organization but an integral part of the national engineering framework.
History and Purpose
NiMechE was originally a division within the Nigerian Society of Engineers and became a full institution in December 2002 during the Annual General Meeting of the Mechanical Division in Port Harcourt, under the leadership of Engr. Chief Akintunde Zedomi.
Its mission is to propagate effective mechanical engineering practices, foster professional excellence, and contribute to national development through innovative engineering solutions and sustainable practices.
Membership and Structure
The institution has chapters across all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria and student extensions in tertiary institutions where mechanical engineering is accredited.
Membership categories include Fellows, Corporate Members, Associate Members, and Student Members, providing opportunities for professional development, networking, and career advancement.
Role in Nigeria
NiMechE promotes engineering education, research, and practice, ensuring mechanical engineering maintains a strong presence in Nigeria's technological and industrial development.
