NIMechE Registration Information

Application & Membership Requirements

Fellowship Grade

Fellowship by Application

  • 15 years post qualification experience.
  • Membership of the NIMechE.
  • Contributions to the development or promotion of the Mechanical Engineering profession.
  • A type-written report on professional experience, emphasizing personal contributions in any one or two areas of engineering practice obtained since the date of election to membership grade, preceded by a resume of employments and appointments prior to membership grade. Three copies of the report should be submitted on A4-size paper with soft covers.
  • Candidates with exceptional professional or public service achievement may be exempted from the 15 years post qualification experience and membership requirements by the National Chairman, but shall be required to pay any stipulated subscriptions and dues before conferment.
  • Such candidates will be required to submit one copy of a paper read or book published in the past.
  • Exceptional candidates are defined as those who have received honours and recognition at the highest National or International level of engineering excellence.

Conditions Before Application by Invitation
  • Already registered members of the Institution.
  • Cost: N1,500,000.00 (One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira), non-refundable.
  • Payment by Bank Draft.
  • Pertinent credentials should be included.
  • All referees must be in good financial standing.

Mandatory Requirements

Requirements to be met by all candidates:

  • Must be 15 years post qualification and a MEMBER of NIMechE.
  • All HND holder Members must have additional academic qualification(s) before Fellowship.
  • Must have attended at least 5 AGMs in 10 years prior to the year of application.
  • Must have written and presented four (4) Technical/Management papers at NIMechE and/or other fora acceptable to NIMechE Council. All papers must have been written and already presented within the last 10 years preceding application.
  • Must be active in his/her NIMechE Chapter activities.
  • All referees must be in good financial standing.
  • Financial status must be consistent. The candidate should not seek Fellowship while having outstanding dues. In the last five years prior to the application for Fellowship, there must have been consistency in payment of the Institution Annual subscriptions/dues.

B.Eng/B.Sc./B.Tech holders in Mechanical Engineering, including HND holders who have done PGD in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of four (4) years post-graduation experience.

Associate

Associate Membership Criteria

B.Eng/B.Sc./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with less than four years post-graduation experience, or HND holders in Mechanical Engineering with four years and above post-graduation experience and yet to do PGD in Mechanical Engineering.

Technicians with City Guilds certificate, up to 5 years and above working experience are also considered for this grade.

Important Membership Processing Note

Proposers must be registered members and financially up-to-date. Forms must be signed by the Chapter Chairman or Coordinator before the form can be processed and considered by the Membership Board.
